CS489/698 Winter 2018 - Introduction to Machine Learning

There will be one midterm test of 75 minutes duration worth 20% of the final mark (15% for CS698). The midterm is scheduled on Wednesday February 14, 8:30 am - 9:50 am (in class).

There will also be a final examination of 2.5 hours worth 40% of the final mark (30% for CS698) to be scheduled by the registrar.

Midterm

• Date: February 14, 8:30am-9:50am

  • RCH307: Students with last name starting with A-F
  • RCH309: Students with last name starting with G-M
  • MC1085: Students with last name starting with N-Z
• Duration: 75 minutes
• Material subject to examination
  • Content of lectures 1-9, 11
  • Assignments 1, 2
• Open book exam (i.e., you can bring your notes, the lecture slides, some textbooks, a non-programmable calculator, but no computer, no tablet, no smart phone, no smart watch)
• No programming questions
• Questions will focus on concepts
• To practice,
  • try the exercises at the end of each chapter in the textbooks recommended for the course (some of the solutions are online)
• Nicole MacNabb will hold special office hours on Monday Feb 12, 12-2pm in the AI lab (DC2306C) to answer questions in preparation for the midterm.

Final

• Date: Tuesday, April 10, 12:30-3pm (M3 1006)
• Duration: 2.5 hrs
• Material subject to examination
  • Content of all lectures (except the guest lectures)
