Safety Precautions
|
Warning: You can receive a serious,
if not lethal, electrical shock, or you can damage your computer if you
do not observe the following safety precautions while installing the adapter. |
- Remove any metallic objects or jewelry from your hands and wrists.
- Use only insulated or nonconducting tools.
- Verify that the computer is turned off and that the power cord is unplugged
before opening the case.
- To safeguard against harmful static discharge, perform the installation
or removal of your adapter in a static-free environment.
- Wear a properly grounded wrist strap or other personal antistatic devices.
- Stand on an antistatic mat.
Pre-Installation Checklist
- Verify that your computer meets the hardware and software requirements listed
under System Requirements.
- Verify that your computer is using the latest BIOS.
- A file called Release.txt is included with the drivers. This file may contain
last-minute changes or notices that may affect installation. Review the information
in this file before installing the adapter.
- If your computer is on, turn it off by following appropriate shutdown procedures.
- When system shutdown is complete, turn off the power and unplug your computer.
- Hold the adapter by the edges and remove it from its shipping package. If
you need to lay the adapter down before you install it, place it on an antistatic
surface.
- Check the adapter for visible signs of damage, particularly on the edge
connector. Do not install a damaged adapter. Inform Dell if the adapter is
damaged.
Adapter Installation Procedure
See System Requirements, Safety
Precautions, and Pre-Installation
Checklist in Hardware Installation before proceeding.
The following instructions apply to installing the CryptoNetX SSL Accelerator
adapter in most computers. Refer to the manuals that were supplied with your
computer for additional information.
- Review the Safety Precautions and Pre-Installation
Checklist. Verify that your computer is turned off and that the power
cord is disconnected.
- Remove the cover of the computer case (observe proper electrical grounding
procedures while doing so), and select any empty PCI (Peripheral Component
Interconnect) slot. If you do not know how to identify a PCI slot, refer to
your computer manual.
- Remove the cover plate from the empty PCI slot that you selected.
- Holding the adapter by the edges, align the connector edge (see Figure
1 in Introduction) of the adapter with the connector
dock in the PCI slot, and insert the adapter into the connector dock.
- Apply even pressure at both corners of the adapter and push the adapter
until it is firmly seated in the PCI slot. The adapter is properly seated
if the following conditions are met:
- The connector edge is aligned with the connector dock of the slot.
- The bottom of the connecting edge is flush against the base of the slot.
|
Note: The connector dock in a 32-bit PCI slot is shorter than the connector
dock in a 64-bit PCI slot. The adapter is designed to fit in either type
of slot . If you install your adapter in a 32-bit PCI slot, part of the
connector edge of the adapter extends beyond the end of the connector dock.
Make sure that the exposed end does not contact any conducting part of the
motherboard. |
|
Caution: Do not use excessive force when seating the adapter, as this
may damage the computer or the adapter. If you have difficulty seating the
adapter, remove the adapter from the slot, realign the adapter with the
connector dock, and try again. |
- Repeat steps 4 and 5 for each additional adapter you want to install.
- Secure the adapter with the adapter clip or screw.
- Replace the cover on the computer case and disconnect any personal antistatic
devices.
This completes the adapter hardware installation procedure.
