Rounding Cubic Roots and the American Mathematical Monthly
Abstract
In this research note, we exemplify the power of Computer Algebra Systems (CAS) by solving a problem from the American Mathematical Monthly. For those unfamiliar with the "Monthly", as the journal is colloquially known, let it be said that the problems are chosen to be at a level where they would challenge even a bright math senior. Some schools have problem groups, in which students contribute towards finding a solution. This shows the level of knowledge and the type of "insights" that a CAS such as Maple can have on a mathematical problem.
