Connecting Your Laptop to the UW Network

Wired and Wireless Connections

UW's wireless network is available across most of UW's campus. At some public access points (including the laptop docking stations in MC2061) you can also connect with an Ethernet cable. Authentication and other services remain the same whether you are wired or wirelessly connected.

Wireless Set Up

Users must authenticate using their WatIAM/Quest or email passwords.

If you have questions about network access or are experiencing problems, please visit the MFCF Help Centre (MC3017) or the CHIP (MC1052) for further assistance.

Suspended Network Privileges

Whenever you use your username and password to authenticate to the Wireless network (or a wired network which uses the campus wireless authentication, you become responsible for that machine’s activities on the network.

Machines missing important security patches or performing unauthorized scans of the network, including peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing or a virus attempting to spread, will flag the authenticating username.

If the authentication page displays an error related to your machine’s status or activities, or if you were emailed with a notice that your username was flagged, you must come to the CHIP to demonstrate that your machine is up to date and virus-and-malware-free. We can then release your username.
