Paper Presentations

Each student can expect to present one or two papers during the term. For those students who present two papers, the presentation grade will be determined by the best presentation of the two.

Presentations should be 25-30 minutes long. A presentation cannot cover everything in a paper. Instead, it should convey the main ideas. That is, it should address the specific questions addressed by paper reviews. Often, a good way to convey both the problem and the solution is to use examples.

The content of your presentation should be your own. However, you may make use of images or diagrams from the paper (or other sources), as long as you include an appropriate citation on your slide.

Paper Reviews

Each student will be expected to prepare a review of one paper per class. If multiple papers are being presented in a class, any one of them may be reviewed. Students who are presenting papers in a class are excused from preparing a review for that class.

Each review is expected to answer the following questions:

Reviews are limited to a single page, so it will be necessary to find concise answers to these questions. Reviews must be submitted in PDF format. There is no prescribed layout, but please use a 10 point (or larger) font, and leave at least 3/4 inch margins all around. Ensure that your review has a header that includes the title of the paper being reviewed, your name, your student ID, your e-mail address, and the date.

Reviews are due at noon on the day of the class at which the paper will be presented. Late submissions are not accepted. However, you can miss up to two reviews submissions without a mark penalty.

Reviews should be submitted via Learn. In Learn, you should find a dropbox for each class meeting date. Upload your review, in PDF format, to the dropbox for the class for which it is due.
