This Help document is about defining people
with the form that appears when you select
Define Interactants in the Forms menu.

Name
Sex and Face

Name

Interactants are named Person 1, Person 2, etc. unless you provide new names. The names identify interactants in menus and in the reports that Interact writes.

You may rename a person by typing in the rectangular field showing the current name. Delete the old text, then type the name you want. When done, press Enter on the keyboard. The new name will will be incorporated into menus and event definitions throughout Interact.

Sex and Face

Interact starts with Person 1 and 3 being male, and Person 2 and 4 being female. Each interactant also is assigned a face.

An interactant's sex determines which repository of EPA profiles - male or female - is used to represent that interactant's sentiments. The interactant's sex also determines whether male or female equations are used to represent that interactant's impression formation processes.

An interactant's face is used to draw expressions of emotion on the Analyze events screen.

You can change an interactant's sex and face with the popup menu for that interactant. The menu offers six choices: Male 1, Male 2, Male 3, Female 1, Female 2, Female 3.

Selecting any of the "Male" choices makes that interactant male; selecting any of the "Female" choices makes the interactant female.

The numbers refer to the faces displayed at the bottom of the form. Selecting "Male 1" assigns the leftmost of the male faces, selecting "Male 2" assigns the middle male face, selecting "Male 3" assigns the rightmost of the male faces. Similarly, selecting "Female 1" assigns the leftmost female face, etc.
