The Systems→ Properties→ List function displays a table that lists systems in the Remote Install management network. Each system is identified by the following attributes:
| NOTE: To update the system table, you must click Refresh in the upper right corner of the screen. The list does not update automatically. |
Table 1 describes the possible system states.
Table 1. System States
|
State |
State Type |
Description |
| Virtual | Stable | When you use the Systems→ Deploy→ Predeployment function, you create a logical system that is set up without physical hardware or before the hardware is automatically discovered. This system cannot be used until the physical hardware is discovered (when the system is connected to the management network and turned on). When that occurs, the configuration set up during predeployment will be applied to the system, and the system will pass through appropriate transitional states as the image you chose is deployed to the system. If the deployment is successful, the system will reach the Up state. |
| Wait For Reboot | Stable (Error) | Target system attributes cannot be discovered. You must reboot the target system. |
| Wait For Deployment | Stable | The hardware attributes for the system have been discovered but the system is a bare metal system without an image assigned to it. This status also implies that the image assigned to this system is incompatible with this system. Deploy an image to this system. |
| Wait For Configuration | Stable | The system is booted with a valid operating system, but the system needs a configuration file to configure the operating system. Configure the system. |
| Preparing for Deployment | Transitional | The image server is getting ready for deployment. |
| Queuing for Deployment | Transitional | The system is waiting its turn for performing a deployment. The image server only allows a certain number of deployments to occur simultaneously as specified as the throttling value. |
| Deploying Image | Transitional | The system's image is being deployed onto the selected target system. |
| Operating System Booting | OS BootingTransitional | The system is booting the image on its hard drive. |
| Configuring | Transitional | Remote Install is configuring the system. |
| Up | Stable | The system’s target operating system is running and the system is operational. |
| Invalid Configuration | Stable (Error) | The current configuration file contained invalid configuration data. Edit the configuration file used and reapply the updated configuration file. See "Systems→ Configure→ Configure Function" for instructions. |
| Internal Failure | Stable (Error) | An error has occurred while trying to perform a command on a system that is currently in the admin state. The system has an image and a configuration file. |
| Running PostOs Update Package | Transitional | The image server is running a postoperating-system update package on a system in the target operating system. |
| Preparing to Capture | Transitional | The system performs predefined tasks to capture. Such tasks include executing Sysprep if requested. For more information about Sysprep, see "About Sysprep." |
| Capturing Image | Transitional | The system's image is being captured. See "Capturing Images." |
| Running Update Package | Transitional | The system is running an update package. |
| Disconnected | Stable (Error) | The image server lost communication with a target system. |
| Rebooting | Transitional | The system is rebooting. |
| Detecting HW and OS | Transitional | Image Server is attempting to determine the hardware and operating system attributes. |
| Unmanaged | Stable | The target system is a system without the required instrumentation agents installed. For information about installing the Remote Install agents, see "Setting Up Target Systems." It is also possible for a system to show this state if the IP address assigned to the system falls within the range of a DHCP scope used by Remote Install. |
| Capture Failure | Stable (Error) | An error has occurred while capturing an image. See "Image Capture" in the troubleshooting section. |
| Admin | Stable | The system is in the preoperating-system state. |
| PostOS Internal Failure | Stable (Error) | An error has occurred from the last command executed. This system is currently running its target operating system. |
| Deployment Failure | Stable (Error) | An error has occurred while deploying an image. See "Deployment and Configuration Issues" in the troubleshooting section. |
| Connection Failure | Stable (Error) | The last operation failed because the image server lost communication to the target system. |
| Entering Admin | Transitional | The system, which was originally running the target operating system, is entering the preoperating-system state. |
| UpdatePackage Failure | Stable (Error) | An error occurred while running an update package on the system. |
| Virtual Internal Failure | Stable (Error) | An internal error occurred while trying to automatically discover the system's hardware attributes. |
| Contacting Agent | Transitional | The target system has been configured. The Remote Install agents are establishing a connection with the image server. The target system may reboot. |
You can display the following additional information about a target system by clicking the system's Service Tag:
Some special buttons also appear when you clicking on a system's Service Tag. Not all of the buttons are visible all of the time: they appear when a system's status may make them necessary.
| NOTE: Check with other administrators before aborting a process that you did not start. |
None.
The System List table displays systems in a specific group. When you click a system's Service Tag, Remote Install displays detailed information about the system.
