Restoring Databases

The IT Assistant database management utility enables you to restore data in the database for the event management system and global configuration. 


Event Management System

To restore event management system data in the database, perform the following steps:

  1. On the main menu, click File.

  2. Select Restore Database.

  3. Click Event Management System.

  4. Click OK.

Global Configuration

To restore global configuration data in the database, perform the following steps:

  1. On the main menu, click File.

  2. Select Restore Database.

  3. Click Global Configuration.

  4. Click OK.

Importing Databases

The IT Assistant database management utility enables you to import flat text files.


To import a database, perform the following steps:

  1. In the database management tree, click the main database root, usually named IT Assistant.

  2. On the main menu, click Action, then click Import Database.

  3. In the Browse for Folder dialog box, select the source directory that you wish to import.

  4. Click OK.

    The following message appears on your screen: The Database has been imported successfully.

  5. Click OK.

    NOTE: You can also import databases by clicking the Import Database button on the toolbar.

Exporting Databases

The IT Assistant database management utility enables you to export flat text files.


To export a database, perform the following steps:

  1. In the database management tree, click the main database root, usually named IT Assistant.

  2. On the main menu, click Action, then click Export Database.

  3. In the Browse for Folder dialog box, select the destination directory.

  4. Click OK.

    The following message appears on your screen: The Database has been exported successfully.

  5. Click OK.

    NOTE: You can also export databases by clicking the Export Database button on the toolbar.

Start Server

The IT Assistant database management utility allows you to start the MSSQLServer service.


To start the server, perform the following steps:

  1. On the main menu, click Action, then click Start Server.

    The following message appears on your screen: MSSQLServer is successfully started.

  2. Click OK.

    NOTE: You can also start the MSSQLServer service by clicking the Start Server button on the toolbar.

Stop Server

The IT Assistant database management utility allows you to stop the MSSQLServer service.


To stop the server, perform the following steps:

  1. On the main menu, click Action, then click Stop Server.

    The following message appears on your screen: MSSQLServer is successfully stopped.

  2. Click OK.

    NOTE: You can also stop the MSSQLServer service by clicking the Stop Server button on the toolbar.

Importing Tables

  1. In the database management tree, expand the database node.

  2. Click a table in the tree.

  3. On the main menu, click Action, then click Import Table.

  4. In the Open dialog box, select the file you want to open from the Look in drop-down menu.

    Make sure the File name field in the dialog box lists the correct name of the file you want to open.

  5. Click Open.

    The following message appears on your screen: The Table has been imported successfully.

  6. Click OK.

    NOTE: You can also import tables by clicking the Import Table button on the toolbar.

Exporting Tables

  1. In the database management tree, expand the database node.

  2. Click a table in the tree.

  3. On the main menu, click Action, then click Export Table.

  4. In the Save As dialog box, display the Save in drop-down menu and select the file into which you want to save the table. 

    If you are exporting an event table, two check boxes appear below the Save As dialog box.


  5. Select Clear Table After Export if you want to delete all records in the table after it is exported to the destination file. Select Save Only Unacknowledged Events to File if you want to export only the unacknowledged events in the table to the destination file (if you do not select this option all records in the table are exported to the file).

    You can select both options, one option, or no option when exporting an Event table.

  6. Click Save.

    The following message appears on your screen: The Table has been exported successfully.

  7. Click OK.

    NOTE: You can also export tables by clicking the Export Table button on the toolbar.

Clearing Tables

  1. In the database management tree, expand the database node.

  2. Click a table in the tree.

  3. On the main menu, click Action, then click Clear Table.

    The following message appears on your screen: You will lose all your settings and discovered machine information. Do you wish to proceed?

  4. Click YES.

    IT Assistant database management utility clears the selected tables.

    The following message appears on your screen: The selected tables have been cleared.

  5. Click OK.

    NOTE: You can also clear tables by clicking the Clear Table button on the toolbar.
