Research Associate Position
Job Description:
We are inventing and commercializing, battery-free, WiFi communication
technologies for use with IoT devices.  The candidate will help us
to design, implement and evaluate prototypes of our system that use
different methods for communication.  We are looking for someone
with programming experience and an engineering, systems programming
and/or a research background in a related field to help grow our team.
Required Skills:
- 
Advanced C programming skills
 - 
Experience with Linux programming
 - 
Scripting experience (e.g., shell scripting)
 
Desirable Skills / Background:
- 
Knowledge of WiFi protocols (e.g., 802.11n and 802.11ac)
 - 
Experience with hostapd, iw
 - 
Experience with tcpdump/wireshark/tshark/libpcap
 - 
Advanced Computer Science or Computer/Electrical Engineering Degree
 
Responsibilities:
- 
Writing C programs that will run on
  an access point and/or mobile device to receive the
  WiFi compliant communication from an IoT device.
 - 
Implementing code on IoT devices (e.g., on a microcontroller) to
  read data from various sensors and to communicate that
  data to the receiving WiFi device.
 - 
Empirically evaluate and compare various techniques,
  their power consumption, range, limitations, and advantages
  and disadvantages when compared with other competing technologies
  (e.g., Zigbee, Bluetooth, etc.)
 
Location:
The candidate must work be able to work on site at the University of Waterloo.
Position Duration and Salary:
- 
Salary will depend on experience and background.
 - 
1 year position.
We might consider two consecutive co-op terms (i.e., an 8 month co-op).
 - 
Possible extension to subsequent year(s) depending on funding
and/or a possible transition to start-up company.
