This is a temporary site to give you information about the course until LEARN opens on September 8. The following two links should give you enough information; or just send me email.
The following is the welcome message that appears on the LEARN home page for the course. It contains additional info:
Welcome to CS638. We will do almost everything within LEARN, so please make sure you acquaint yourself.
- Other than the first "Welcome Lecture", the course will run on the "flipped classroom" concept -- the recorded lectures will be available here [i.e., on LEARN] for you to watch and study and we will have weekly live office hours so you can ask me questions
- The first lecture will be live and it will be at 11AM Eastern time on September 13. To join this lecture, you need to click "Online Rooms" at the top of this page, and then join the "Welcome Lecture".
- Live office hours will be each Friday at 11AM Eastern Time starting on September 16 (for one hour). For those of you who cannot attend, I will record these sessions and post them so you can view them here. To join the Office Hours, click "Online Rooms" at the top of this page, and then join the "Office Hours". Please note: I will come online at 11AM and wait until 11:15 -- if no one has joined by then, I will sign off.
- I have created a schedule for the ordering of the topics across each of the lecture weeks. Look on the left under Calendar to see the schedule. Each week lists the modules to be covered with links to lecture slides and the recorded lecture presentation.
- You can access the slides and recorded presentation above from the Content tab.
- To ensure that you keep up with the schedule, there are quizzes -- almost one per week. You take these online and they will take from 10-20 minutes. Each quiz will be open for a 3 day period to allow you flexibility, but once you start, you will have to complete it in the allocated time (the time requirement is specified on the front page of each quiz). The schedule of these is also on the calendar.
- The remainder of the course Technical requirements: You will need
- A web cam so I can see you both during the Welcome Lecture and during the live office hours
- A good microphone so I can hear you during these events
