Dear Editor:

I drew very different conclusions about the fatal hike of
Mike Turner.

If a human being had left Turner to die alone, pinned by a boulder, and
in pain, we would think him callous, evil, or depraved. Why, then,
should Turner's god be exempt from such a judgment?

Turner may have believed in the Christian deity, but that
god abandoned him in his hour of need. One lesson we should
draw is clear: belief in gods is a dangerous and pointless
illusion.

And the other lesson is equally clear: hiking alone
substantially increases the probability of a fatal
accident.
