Reducing Stack Latency under Realistic System Loads in a Virtual World

Sowmini Varadhan, Principal Software Engineer, Sun/Oracle

I'll talk about the common pitfalls in instrumenting latency that do not accurately represent the actual latency seen in realistic loads, and the factors to keep in mind when optimizing network latency. I'll also present the results of some of the performance enhancements in OpenSolaris that were made possible by recent virtualization projects.

About the speaker: Sowmini Varadhan is a Principal Software Engineer in the Solaris Kernel Networking group at Sun/Oracle for over 9 years. She has worked on various aspects of the kernel, including routing protocols, kernel TCP/IP performance and configuration. Sowmini has a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and a PhD from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
