CS 856 Guest Lecture

I will use GSM and VoIP phone calls as concrete examples of digital systems with latency (end-to-end delay of speech). I will explore many of the potential contributors to the system latency one might find in a practical implementation. I hope to stimulate discussion on:

• how one might categorize the different contributors to system latency and their effects on the system.
• what techniques one can use to analyze complex systems from a latency point of view.
