[COLLABORATORS]

Collaborators

Dr Victor Strecher of the Comprehensive Cancer Center, University of Michigan, has done pioneering work in the development and clinical evaluation of tailored patient-education materials in areas as diverse as smoking-cessation, dietary habits, and breast-cancer prevention. His research has shown that educational material that is tailored to the individual patient can have a very significant effect on the patient's compliance with suggested medical regimens.

Dr Strecher and his group are particularly interested in the development of automated natural language generation systems for producing tailored smoking-cessation materials, and it is this topic that is the basis of the collaboration between our two groups.

We also hope to apply this work on tailored smoking-cessation materials in the Asthma Education Clinic of the Peel Memorial Hospital (Brampton, Ontario), which aims to educate parents on how their smoking contributes to their children's asthmatic problems.
