I like both of the figures on this page. The top one represents of the few uses of POV-Ray (or any kind of 3D graphics, really) in the thesis. I think that the clean greys blend in fairly well with the 2D diagrams. I like how the bottom figure lays out six steps in a U shape, to highlight how the bottom three steps essentially undo the effects of the top three.
