  This is a 1.5-hour talk (or better, two 45-minute talks) that capture a high-level outline of the freshman seminar of the same name taught by myself, Randy Katz, and Steve Gribble at UC Berkeley.   Portions copyright 1996-1997 by Randy Katz.
• A Whole New World: The Teaching of Technology and Its Implications for the 21st Century
  This invited talk to the teachers of the San Ramon Valley Unified School District was given by myself and Ursula Sexton, who was awarded the NSF Science Teacher of the Year   for 1997.  It frames the "computing history" talk above, encourages educators to put the Internet and computers in social and historical perspectives for their K-12 science students, and contains some example "hands on research" projects for students and a suggestion for a mock debate on the societal implications of privacy-enhancing computing technology.
