Driver File

The Windows Server 2003 driver file is mraid2k.sys. This is the device driver installation file that is required to install the host adapter module.


Installing the Windows Server 2003 Driver

There are three methods for installing the Windows Server 2003 driver:

Use this method if you are performing a new installation of Windows Server 2003 and want to include the drivers.

Use this method if Windows Server 2003 is already installed and you want to add the device drivers.

Use this method if Windows Server 2003 is already installed and has device drives, and you want to update them with the latest drivers.

Making a Fresh Installation on a New Windows Server 2003 Server

You may have to refer to additional information in the appropriate operating or user's guides. Perform the following steps to install the driver during Windows Server 2003 installation.

  1. Power down the system.

  2. Boot the server.

During bootup, the BIOS banner should display. If it does not, power down and read the "Troubleshooting" section in the PERC 4/Di User's Guide.

NOTE: For the procedures needed to configure logical drives, refer to the PERC 4/Di RAID Controller User's Guide.
  1. Configure the logical drive.

NOTE: If this controller is not your primary controller, you can skip to Step 5 and configure the logical drives using Dell™ OpenManage™ Array Manager.
  1. Insert the Dell OpenManage Server Assistant® CD in the CD drive and restart the server.

  2. When Windows Server 2003 begins to boot from the CD, press <F6> when the following displays:

Press F6 if you need to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver.

Within a few minutes, a screen appears that asks for additional controllers in the system.

  1. Select <S>.

The available drivers display:

DELL PERC 3/QC RAID Driver for Windows Server 2003

DELL PERC 3/DC & 3/DCL RAID Driver for Windows Server 2003

DELL PERC 3/SC RAID Driver for Windows Server 2003

DELL PERC 4/Di RAID Driver for Windows Server 2003

DELL CERC ATA100/4ch RAID Driver for Windows Server 2003

DELL PERC 4/DC RAID Driver for Windows Server 2003

DELL PERC 4/SC RAID Driver for Windows Server 2003

  1. Scroll down the screen to select Dell PERC 4/Di RAID Driver for Windows Server 2003.

  2. Select the driver for the RAID controller and press <Enter> to load the driver.

  3. If you have additional controllers to install, repeat step 7 and step 8 to install them.

  4. Press <Enter> to continue the installation process and follow the instructions on the screen.

Refer to the Windows Server 2003 installation documentation for more information.

Adding to an Existing Installation as a Non-boot Controller

Perform the following steps to configure the driver when you add the RAID controller to an existing system.

  1. When the controller is added to an existing Windows Server 2003 Server installation, the operating system detects the controller.

  2. Click Cancel on All Detected Devices and reboot.

  3. Install the drivers for the new hardware.

The Found New Hardware Wizard screen displays the detected hardware device.

  1. Click Next.

The screen used to locate the device driver for the hardware device displays.

  1. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device and click Next.

The Locate Driver Files screen displays.

  1. Insert the Dell OpenManage Server Assistant CD in the CD driver.

The Wizard detects the device driver on the CD and the Completing the upgrade device driver wizard displays the name of the controller.

  1. Click Finish to complete the installation.

Updating an Existing Windows Server 2003 Server

Perform the following steps to update the driver.

  1. Insert the Dell OpenManage Server Assistant CD into the CD drive.

  2. Press Start—> Settings—> Control Panel—> System.

The System Properties screen displays.

  1. Click the Hardware tab.

The Properties screen displays.

  1. Click the Device Manager tab.

The Device Manager screen displays.

  1. Click SCSI and RAID Controllers.

  2. Double-click Dell PERC4 RAID Controller.

  3. Select the Driver tab and click Update Driver.

The screen for the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard displays. The Wizard helps you update the driver for the hardware device.

  1. Follow the steps in the Wizard to update the driver for the hardware device.

  2. Follow the steps in the Wizard to search for the CD.

  3. Select the INF file from the CD.

  4. Click Next and continue the installation steps in the Wizard.
