Installing the Driver
Table 2-1 describes the PERC 4/Di Windows 2000 driver files.

There are three methods of installing the PERC 4/Di Windows 2000 driver:
- Making a fresh Windows 2000 installation
Use this method if you are performing a new installation of Windows 2000 and want to include the
PERC 4/Di driver.
- Adding to an existing Windows 2000 installation
Use this method if Windows 2000 is already installed and you want to add the
PERC 4/Di driver.
- Updating an existing Windows 2000 installation
Use this method if Windows 2000 is already installed and has device drives, and you want to update them with the latest drivers.
You may have to refer to additional information in the appropriate operating or user's guide. The installation process includes software installation and configuration.
To install the PERC 4/Di driver during Windows 2000 installation, perform the following steps:
- Boot the server.
- If the PERC 4/Di BIOS banner does not appear during boot, power down and read the
"Troubleshooting" chapter in the PERC 4/Di User's Guide.
- Configure the logical drive.

- Insert the Dell OpenManage Server Assistant® CD in the CD drive and restart the
server.
- When Windows 2000 begins to boot from the CD, press <F6> immediately when
the following appears:
Press F6 if you need to install a third party SCSI or RAID
driver...
Within a few minutes, a screen appears that asks for additional adapters in the system.
- Press <S> on that screen.
The following text appears in the middle of the screen:
DELL PERC 4/Di RAID Controller
- Press <Enter> to load the driver.
- Press <Enter> again to continue the installation process as usual.
Refer to the Windows 2000 installation documentation.
If Windows 2000 is already running on this system, use the following steps to add the new driver for the PERC 4/Di RAID controller.

NOTE: This assumes that the Windows 2000 boot disk is not connected to an onboard
controller.

- Boot the system to Windows 2000.
The Found New Hardware Wizard appears.
- Click on Next.
- Select Search for a suitable driver and click Next to continue.
- Insert the Dell OpenManage Server Assistant CD and click Next to continue.
- Continue to click Next and finish the installation.
- Reboot the system.
- To confirm driver installation, right click My Computer and select Manage.
- Click on Device Manager.
- Click SCSI and RAID controllers to see the newly added PERC controller(s) in the
list.
Perform the following steps to update the driver.
- Insert the Dell OpenManage Server Assistant CD into the CD drive.
- Press Start> Settings> Control Panel> System.
The System Properties screen displays.
- Click the Hardware tab.
The Properties screen displays.
- Click the Device Manager tab.
The Device Manager screen displays.
- Click SCSI and RAID Controllers.
- Double-click Dell PERC4 RAID Controller.
- Select the Driver tab and click Update Driver.
The screen for the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard displays. The Wizard helps you update the driver for the hardware device.
- Follow the steps in the Wizard to update the driver for the hardware device.
- Follow the steps in the Wizard to search for the CD.
- Select the INF file from the CD.
- Click Next and continue the installation steps in the Wizard.
