Overview

Thank you for buying a Multi-Tech MT5634ZBA modem. You have acquired one of the finest intelligent data and fax modems available today from one of America's oldest and most respected modem manufacturers: Multi-Tech Systems, Inc. This user's guide will help you set up, test, and use your modem.

Features

The MT5634ZBA modem incorporates both the ITU-T V.90 and K56flexprotocols. Using these standard protocols, Internet service providers (ISPs) can send data downstream to your computer at 56K bps speeds only because the data normally is converted from digital to analog only once before it reaches your modem. Upstream transmissions and transmissions between client modems are limited to data rates of 33.6K bps, as are downstream transmissions that are converted more than once on the telephone network.

The MT5634ZBA is a Plug and Play modem with callback security and remote configuration. In standard mode, you can store up to four command lines or telephone numbers of up to 40 characters each in the modems' nonvolatile memory. In callback security mode, you can store up to 30 passwords and dialing strings. Other modem features include AT&T calling card tone detection, pulse and tone dialing, DTR dialing, Caller ID, two-wire leased-line operation, 11-bit operation, V.42 error correction, V.42bis data compression, and self-resetting lightning protection. Serial port speeds can be set to 230,400 bps.

The modem also has V.17 (14,400 bps), Class 1 and 2, and Group 3 fax capabilities.
