Project: Umbrella

App description
Umbrella Inc. is a social enterprise that is bringing a new, innovative, security-based Android application to the market. Our mission is to help all women feel safe and secure. Our app Umbrella will be used to help women feel safe by implementing a check-in system that allows the user to “check in” with the app at regular time intervals in a quick and efficient way: by drawing a shape as their passcode. A lack of check in will notify one of the user’s pre-entered contacts that they missed a check in, and that the user could possibly be in danger.

Team: The Royal Einsteins

Project: Trivia!

photo of Team The Royal Einsteins

App description
Our app, Trivia!, targets women and children who are being abused or witnessing abuse — because 1 in 5 women experience some form of harassment in their intimate relationships and in Canada alone, over 3,000 women, with approximately 2,900 dependent children, are living in emergency shelters in order to escape abuse. Trivia! helps victims of domestic violence, as well as anyone who finds themselves in a potentially dangerous situation, by allowing them to contact help subtly and safely. Trivia! appears to be a game, but users can contact a variety of emergency numbers that they have previously inserted in the app. Contacting someone will send that person or organization a text message that includes the location of the user as well as a general threat level.

Team: St. Anne Kitchener

Project: Reusing, Reducing & Recycling Waste

The three Rs

The 4s: Reuse, reduce, recycle and rejoice!

App description
This app teaches us how to dispose waste correctly. A quick quiz is added to raise awareness and importance about proper use, disposal and recycling of waste. The problem is people are putting wrong things in the wrong bin. The target audience is our community, our city, our country and our world. Waste that can be recycled is going in landfills, using more space available and also we are wasting money by not recycling. The solution is my app, where people will get educated and will not contaminate. This app is a step forward in educating people and creating awareness about stopping contamination and to become a responsible citizen.
