Technovation Girls Waterloo wrapped up their season on April 19 with 21 teams of girls age 10-18 submitting an app to solve a local or global issue. Teams were judged on their ability to address the issue with the app created, to determine who would advance to the next round.
Six of our Waterloo teams, have advanced to the semifinals, with one of those teams, being the top-scoring team in the senior division (ages 15-18) for the round in all of Canada!
Congratulations to all Technovation Girls Waterloo teams and their members! Every team worked hard and everyone should be proud of what they've accomplished.
WATERLOO SENIOR SEMIFINALISTS
Project: Aiuto Solutions
App description: For micro to medium sized charities who need to create and sustain long-lasting relationships with donors, Aiuto Solutions is a mobile app that provides them with the tools to connect with active donors, sustain donation transparency, and communicate impact.
App description: EatAware is an AI-based, "healthy-eating habits" based app meant for all types of teenagers, including those struggling with eating disorders and obesity. It promotes a positive environment that encourages teenagers to take the best care of themselves and their bodies. It engages and allows teenagers to easily record their meals, and gives feedback on their eating habits, helping them to strive for a healthier lifestyle.
Team Hustle was the top-scoring team in the senior division in the semifinal round among Canadian teams.
App description: Harmony aims to reduce the mental health effects of the pandemic. These effects have been especially severe among high school and university students, so they are our target audience. Our app includes features that will help motivate individuals and help them incorporate self-care tasks into their schedules. For each self-care task that a user completes, they receive a certain amount of points that count towards a goal. They can then set personal rewards for when they reach it. Our app also includes features such as a schedule planner to help people find purpose in their day, a meditation space, and a journaling page.
App description: Plabbit is a time management app designed to help middle and high school students to avoid late assignments, procrastination and cramming. Our app can take user input of a title, due date and estimated time for completion of an assignment. Then, Plabbit provides a monthly calendar view as a visual layout of the student's assignments. There is also an interactive daily schedule page. This page is an AI-generated plan that serves as a recommendation for how students should dedicate their time to their academics. The schedule is designed based on user input of their free time, assignments due dates, and estimated time for completion.

B.T.F. (Building The Future)
Project: Brighter Kid
App description: Our app helps sick kids connect with other children around the world and play games allowing children to build up a connection with other kids. Children feel safer when they talk with their friends than adults because children find it hard to talk about their feelings with adults. Overall the app was designed to keep kids, teens, and adolescents entertained since there’s no way for them to socialize and stay entertained if they are sick. When you open our app you will see a navigation bar with our mission, activites, and our find a friend screen. One of the challenges we faced this year was reaching out to our event handlers because of Covid-19.
Project: No Limits
App description: “No Limits” is focused around helping people with disabilities. This affects people all over the world . More or less this problem doesn’t just affect people with disabilities but caregivers, friends, and family. We think this problem is worth solving because it’s happening to enough people in the world and we feel like it’s our responsibility to help them. So, we created “No Limits''. “No Limits” includes maps and locations that are suitable to people who struggle with things like walking, speaking and much more. Our app includes: Parks, museums, restaurants and more. We believe that everyone should have equal advantages in this world and our app will help achieve this.
Technovation Girls Waterloo would like to thank it’s community partners for supporting the teams this year. Special thank you to all listed for helping us create a space where these students can thrive, connect and find a sense of belonging!
