Service Call Tool Kit
The following items may or may not be useful in one's toolkit on a service call.
- Philips screwdriver, of course, in a couple of different sizes
- USB key, 256MB minimum but more is always better - good for backing things up, copying drivers or tools to a networkless PC
- Windows password recovery CD
- FIRE
has been useful in investigating compromised Linux PCs
- Helix
has had good mentions too, but I've never used it
- Recovery Is Possible
I really like RIP, it's a recovery CD that seems to work well with all of Fedora, Debian, and Ubuntu. It used to boot FreeBSD too, but that no longer seems to be the case.
