Instructional Support Group (ISG)

The Instructional Support Group is an integral part of the School of Computer Science. It is made up of undergraduate co-op student Instructional Support Assistants (ISAs), graduate student Instructional Apprentices (IAs), graduate student Teaching Assistants (TAs), and full-time supervisors, Instructional Support Coordinators (ISCs).

We coordinate support for the following Computer Science courses: CS 100DE, 115, 115X/105, 116, 116X/106, 135, 136, 137, 138, 145, 146, 200, 230, 234, 240, 240E, 241, 241E, 245, 245E, 246, 247, 251, 343(starting F15), 349 (starting F15) and 350. We also support a Software Engineering course SE212. These courses have one or more of the following characteristics:

  • large enrolments
  • more than one section
  • a portion of the final grade comes from a lab component
  • the labs are scheduled by the registrar
  • the course instructors change often

Our Mission

We are a service organization devoted to delivering high quality education to students in a manner that is fair and respectful to everyone. There are two main ways in which we meet this goal:

  • We form temporary partnerships with faculty members and sessional instructors to support them in their teaching roles
  • We ensure that students receive quality instruction and assistance by providing the necessary software assistance and staff training
