Scrappy is a software system for fused deposition modelling 3D printing that replaces infill material with scrap to reduce material and energy consumption. To achieve this, the system integrates into an existing CAD workfow and manages a database of common items, previous prints, and manually entered objects. In addition, a computer graphics based nesting algorithm is used to identify which items fit, as well as beneficial alignments. This seminar examines the implementation of the core algorithm, as well as how all system parts interact to make results accessible within the CAD workflow.
