The University of Waterloo Human Factors and Ergonomics Society is proud host IUW19 — the Inter-University Workshop — for its 20th anniversary.

IUW is an annual student-run workshop that attracts research students, professors and industry members from the human factors and ergonomics community. The IUW is an opportunity for this community to engage with research, career exploration and networking while enjoying keynote speeches from leaders in industry and academia.

Each year, the workshop is hosted by the University of Toronto, University of Waterloo, or SUNY Buffalo. 

About the University of Waterloo HFES chapter

The University of Waterloo Human Factors and Ergonomics Society is a student chapter of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society. HFES was founded in 1981 and has grown to 24 members — 18 students and six faculty members. The University of Waterloo HFES chapter strives to inform its members and the university community about the relevance and importance of human factors in a variety of domains, current research on campus, and potential career opportunities.

Who can apply to attend the Inter-University Workshop?

IUW19 invites graduate students and senior undergraduates who are conducting research in human factors, ergonomics, user experience or work from any field involving technology, machines, design and systems.

Summary of events at IUW19

Keynote addresses

Two keynote speakers will talk about their experiences in human factors engineering, spanning academia and industry.

Podium presentations and poster session

Students will talk about their latest human factors research, in fields from healthcare and transportation to military and process control applications.

Awards ceremony

The top podium and poster presentations, as voted by attendees, will receive a prize.
