The following pages contain the requirements for the plans offered by the School of Computer Science in a handy checklist format.
All of the checklists include courses from the Math Faculty core. These courses come in the Honours version as well as an advanced version. Either version of the course will satisfy the requirements. To conserve space in the checklists, a requirement such as MATH 135 or 145 is abbreviated as MATH 1[34]5. Any one of the digits inside the square brackets may be used to form a valid course number.
In the following checklists, the Required Courses section should contain 40 unique courses. Some of these are unspecified and will vary from student to student. A particular course can satisfy one and only of the required courses.
The checkboxes in the Additional Constraints section are different. Each constraint is evaluated independently; the same course may be used to satisfy more than one constraint. For example, the three courses PSYCH 101, PSYCH 211 and PSYCH 312 can be used to satisfy the breadth requirement (1.0 units from Arts Group B) and also satisfy the depth requirement (1.5 units with the same prefix forming a prerequisite chain of length three).
The term "Non-Math unit" refers to any course that is not offered by the Mathematics Faculty, plus MTHEL (Math elective) courses. The term "Elective" means any course, offered for university credit. Both terms exclude courses that are specifically labelled as not for Honours or Honours Math students, or courses that are on the Faculty's no-credit list. In addition, be careful not to take two or more courses with significant course overlap.
Many of the checklists make reference to "Arts Group A" and "Arts Group B". These are groupings of courses defined by the Arts Faculty. Group A comprises courses in the humanities, and Group B comprises courses in the social sciences. Computer Science has augmented the list, for our purposes, to include Accounting, Business, and Management Science courses. Courses in each group begin with the prefixes in the following tables:
Arts Group A CHINA Chinese GER German MUSIC Music CLAS Classical Studies GRK Greek PHIL Philosophy CROAT Croatian Hebrew POLSH Polish DRAMA Drama HIST History PORT Portuguese DUTCH Dutch ITAL Italian RS Religious Studies ENGL English JAPAN Japanese RUSS Russian FINE Fine Arts KOREA Korean SPAN Spanish FR French LAT Latin UKRAN Ukrainian In addition, the following specific courses may be used to meet the Group A requirements: JS 101A, 101B, 201A, 201B, EASIA 201R, and ARTS 301.
Arts Group B AFM Accounting ECON Economics PSCI Political Science ANTH Anthropology GEOG Geography PSYCH Psychology BUS Business MSCI Management Science SOC Sociology
The Depth requirement may be met in two ways:
Here are a number of examples of prerequisite chains of length three:
Many subject areas do not have prerequisite chains. Students interested in these areas should simply take three courses at the 3rd year level or higher.
