Office “Cubicles” (15 Year Refresh Cycle)
Unless researchers specify
“specialized”
needs as part of a renovation,
whenever office walls are being
constructed or “opened up”,
the CSCF Infrastructure
BICSI certified data cable designer
recommends using the following minimum guidelines:
- Electrical requirements
-
-
- Plan for 120v@8 amps to be required per user work-area to support the
standard STEAM grad desk setup (needs URL reference or ssi include).
- one 20amp duplex outlet per cubicle.
- one or two 6-8 outlet surge suppression power bar(s) (preferably with noise dampening functionality).
- Networking cabling
-
- Near every electrical outlet there should be a data outlet (even if left blank)
- A data outlet consists of a plaster ring with conduit back to nearest network tray.
(Please do not use outlet boxes in place of plaster ring.)
- Minimum of 1" diameter conduit connects the data outlet to the network cable pathway.
Diameter size to allow for a fifty percent increase in cable fill to support future additions.
- The network data conduit is to terminate at a maximum of two inches from outside edge of the plaster ring.
- All data conduit must terminate through the side of the cable tray.
- All data conduit must have bushings on both ends and have a pull cord installed.
- Where furniture layout supports the placement of networked equipment (work-area),
plan for one cable per device with a minimum of 2 wired copper network drops for that work-area.
