CSCF Proposed Hardware Floor Plan  ( Acad file )

(Gary Kosar's initial estimate to be ready March 26.)

Proposed Hardware Floor Plan

Heating/Cooling

As large setups could last a couple of weeks, this area will need to be able to cool 20-30 computers, 4x19" CRT monitors, and 5 people.

Flooring

Flooring will be either Anti-static ($4810.00) or regular VA ($1450.00) tile. (Halls and offices to be new carpeted flooring matching the current hallways.)

Furnishings:

Overhead Wire-flex Network Tray

Drawn in green (existing) and purple (proposed) on the diagram, we would like to add to the current Wire-flex network tray. This extends it along the ceiling passing above the computer rack to the walls that each of the Workstation benchs are against.

Standard 19" Computer Rack (cost: $624.00)

At the lower left corner of the air duct, beside the shelving, there is a standard 19" computer rack for the storage of rack mounted host spares. Current choice in these type of racks is model "MRK-4436" made by Middle Atlantic Products, Inc. ("http://www.middleatlantic.com/enclosure/gang/mrkg.htm")
Vendor: NEDCO, Sales contact: Don Malacoff.

Red Communication Racks

The communication racks (drawn in red) are already existing items that are remenants of a former wire closet. They cannot be moved more than a couple of feet in either direction due to the existing building communication wiring they must be connected to.

Shelving (165' of 24" deep shelving, 20' of 18" shelving, 80' of cart shelving) (quote still pending)

See page 14-17 of the Emerson Storage Solutions "Commercial Products Solutions Guide" for examples and list pricing of the shelving I'm referring to here. Contact information is: Brenneman Filing System Limited, Larry Brenneman, 3-50 Bathurst Dr. Waterloo, On, Canada N2V 2C5. Phone: (519) 747-577 or 1-800-265-3453 Fax: (519) 747-5987 email: info@brennemanfiling.ca, URL: http://www.brennemanfiling.ca.

The following shelving units are 5 shelves (72") high.

At each end of Workstation 2 there are two caster carts for a total of 4 carts. These are 5' long, 2' deep and 68" high (4 shelves). Approximate cost $2,400.00 (4 x $600.00)

Workbenches (36' length of benchtop)

The free-standing Modular Work Stations 1, 2 and 3 which are 12' in length, 36" deep and > 7' high, come from Arbell International Corp: contact: Arlink Regional Manager, Terry Milford, PO Box 215 Burlington, ON L7L 6A6. Phone: (905) 332-8484 Fax: (905) 332-8277 tmilford@arlink.com.
They are similar in design to this smaller unit having:

Cost (from quote number: 000454) would be $5053.95 Cdn per bench.

Compressed Air

Compressed air line from the building supply is to be located at the end of "Work Station 1" beside the door.

Chairs (not shown)

We will also want 4-6 standard office chairs for inside this lab.
NEED information from Jennifer Keir or Debbie Brown on what chairs we ordered from what vendor for new people.

Power Bars for Rolling Carts

NEED quote on 4 Middle Atlantic Power bars, model #PD-1415C (115 Volt, 14 outlet unit), Cost $unknown

Concerns:

Noise Level

The existing network equipment (Extreme Alpine 3808 chasis) is quite loud (need DB reading) and may affect the ability of working for prolonged priodes at the workbenches. It would require five of the quieter 1u 48 port switches to replace it at a cost of ~$25,000.00 (four times $5,000)

Fire Safety

It is ok to use the new DC 2575 as a person's office as long as we keep a clean line of sight from it's door to the lab exit door(s).
