Mozilla Thunderbird allows users to choose from three different layouts as well as which toolbars are displayed in the main window.

  1. Personalizing the main window
  2. Displaying toolbars
  3. Installing and using Thunderbird themes

1. Personalizing the main window

To change the layout of the main window, go to "View > Layout > ..." and select the desired option.

2. Displaying toolbars

To choose which toolbars are displayed in the main window, select "View > Toolbars > ..." and select which toolbar(s) you want displayed in the main window.

It is recommended, however, that you do not hide the "Mail Toolbar" because it allows easy access to common features such as the address book and various mail composition functions.

3. Installing and using Thunderbird themes

Theme packages provide new icons and colour schemes for Thunderbird.

If you are using a PC, see Thunderbird to learn how to install Thunderbird themes.

If you are using a Macintosh:

  1. Click the "Download" link for the appropriate theme and save the file on your computer.
  2. Go to "Tools > Themes" and click on the "+" icon to "Install a Theme".
  3. Locate the theme file you just downloaded and click OK.

To view the list of available themes, see Thunderbird.
