Operating System Install

During the installation I used these replies:

    Just get the date close, xntp package will set it correctly once it's installed.

Once system has rebooted after the initial OS install:

• corrected hostname from <hostname> to <hostname>.math.
  • <hostname># echo <hostname>.math > /etc/hostname.hme0
  • <hostname># echo <hostname>.math > /etc/nodename
  • <hostname># hostname `cat /etc/hostname.hme0`
  • <hostname># sysidconfig
• need <hostname> to be able to resolve it's xhier masters IP address(es).
  • <hostname># echo "129.97.140.122 pythagoras.math" >> /etc/hosts
• And to be able to reach the arch master on the network, so lets add the default route in by hand. (note: The University standard for gateway addresses is to use the first three octets of the IP address followed by a ".1".)
  • <hostname>.math# route add default 129.97.140.1 1
• allow root remote access to this system only from mfcf.math.uwaterloo.ca, math.uwaterloo.ca and pythagoras.math.uwaterloo.ca
  • <hostname># echo "mfcf.math" > /.rhosts

  • <hostname># echo "pythagoras.math" >> /.rhosts
• To provide a quick "education" of network information for this host copy from a regional sibling the hosts, networks and group files:
  • pythagoras# rdist -c -w /etc/{inet/{hosts,networks},group} <hostname>.math:/
  If a regional sibling does not exist, copy networks from one of the xhier masters and append the host information for each of the xhier masters (this host will be using) to the /etc/hosts file. (I'm not sure about groups at this time.)
• Add the following lines to /etc/system:
  * Increase the number of pty's available.
  set pt_cnt=512
  * Take some security precautions
  set noexec_user_stack=1
  set noexec_user_stack_log=1
  
• rebooted host using "reboot -- -rv"
