HCI researchers win paper awards at CHI 2024

Four computer science students and graduates have received the top honours at the 42nd annual Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI). It took place in Honolulu, Hawaii, United States of America, from May 11th to 16th, 2024.  

Organized by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), CHI is the premier international Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) conference. It is also one of the top-ranked conferences in computer science.

Recently, Momentic was chosen for the Y Combinator’s (YC) Winter 2024 cohort, joining 11 other startups founded by the University of Waterloo’s students and alumni.

New AI-powered tool could curb hate speech

A team of researchers at the University of Waterloo has developed a new machine-learning method that detects hate speech on social media platforms with 88 per cent accuracy, saving employees from hundreds of hours of emotionally damaging work.
